Quinn gets first 2023 Targa NZ stage win

Leg 3 of the 2023 Targa NZ consisted of five special stages with a total distance of 78.63kms. The first stage was on Bryce Road just out of Rotorua. Roy Callaway/Samantha Gray won this stage. Martin Dippie and codriving son Sam Dippie in the Mitre 10 Porsche GT3 RS ran into a mechanical issue part way through the stage.

The cars then toured to Taupo’s International Motorsport Park for 3 laps to total 8.38kms before carrying onto Waiouru for another two stages. The RX8 of Van Klink and Richards won both of these stages.

Completing the day the cars regrouped at Circuit Chris Amon, Manfeild for 3 laps. Tony Quinn and co-driver Kieran Anstis in the Nissan GTR35 showed their prowess on purpose built circuits to win this stage.

Van Klink/Richards lost ground however still remain at the top of the leader board to close off the day with a 54 second lead over second placed Callaway/Gray’s Subaru STi. Completing the top three is Jason Gill and Brianna Little who are a further 1 minute 14 seconds behind. Yesterdays second placed man Mike Tubbs has fallen back to 4th place.

Tomorrow’s penultimate Leg will see the cars race on the back roads between Taihape and Palmerston North.
