Penrite Fords strike to lead Friday practice at Bathurst

Grove Racing rookie Matt Payne (No. 19 Penrite Ford Mustang) has topped the first practice session of Friday at the Repco Bathurst 1000, with teammate David Reynolds (No. 26 Penrite Ford Mustang) in second and less than one tenth of a second behind his stablemate.

New Zealand-born Payne, who turned 21 on Tuesday, has been quick across both days of action at Bathurst, he was second-quick in the opening session of the weekend yesterday. This weekend is his second Bathurst 1000, and the first for co-driver and French sports car ace Kévin Estre.

Current championship leader Brodie Kostecki (No. 99 Coca-Cola Chevrolet Camaro) was third quickest in Practice 3 ahead of the two Dick Johnson Racing Ford Mustangs of Will Davison (No. 17 Shell V-Power Ford Mustang) and Anton De Pasquale (No. 11 Shell V-Power Ford Mustang).

On-track action for Supercars resumes at 1:05 p.m. AEDT with Practice 4, where teams will complete final preparations before ArmorAll Qualifying at 4:15 p.m.

The fastest 10 drivers from today’s qualifying will then take place in tomorrow’s ArmorAll Top Ten Shootout to determine pole position for the 60th anniversary running of the Repco Bathurst 1000.
