Kaleb Ngatoa confident heading to S5000 round at Australian GP weekend

After two promising rounds where the Team BRM driver had plenty of pace but ultimately failed to feature in the top positions it’s game on at the Australian Grand Prix event in Melbourne in the biggest field of the 2022 Championship so far.

Seventeen cars will line up for the weekend to compete over three races around a circuit heavily revised since the S5000 championship last visited it. S5000 takes to the track today with two practice sessions followed by qualifying later on. There are races each day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Lap times are expected to plummet from those at the last S5000 event at the circuit. Turns 1 and 3 have been altered dramatically to provide more track space. Turn 6 has also been completely re-profiled and the Turn 9/10 chicane removed altogether.

“It’s going to be fast and very busy out there and I’m as ready as I will ever be,” said Ngatoa. “We know we have plenty of speed and we have shown that at both of the first two rounds, so this weekend it’s really about putting all of that together and nailing some big results. That’s the objective.”

With COVID-19 having forced the cancellation of both the 2020 and 2021 Formula One events, a capacity crowd is expected and Ngatoa is thrilled to be a part of it.

“This is what it’s all about, racing and performing on the big stage and it doesn’t get any bigger than a Formula One Grand Prix,” he added. “I’m going to enjoy the experience, but I’m hungry for some good results and that’s my focus.”

It’s already been an eye-opening experience for the Marton driver undertook his Thursday track walk with none other than McLaren Formula One star Lando Norris.

Kaleb currently sits fifth in the points standings with 104 points from the two round. The top four headed by Tim Macrow are all within points of eachother.
