According to the Motorsport Magazine, David Dicker, owner of Rodin Carlin, has been considering an application to the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) to participate at a competitive level in the FIA Formula One World Championship by 2025 at the earliest.

In author Dominic Tobin’s article titled Rodin Carlin mulls F1 entry bid with New Zealand-based team and woman driver, Dicker, who founded Australian IT distributor Dicker Data, which turned over £1.6bn last year, was undecided about whether to commit and fully fund such a bid.

In February 2023, the FIA officially opened the application process which required any new team to prove it is capable of “seeking to participate at a competitive level,” with the governing body looking at a number of aspects including funding, technical capabilities, plus personnel and experience, managing the sustainability challenge with the view to becoming net-zero CO2 by 2030..

According to Tobin, Dicker would manufacture the whole car from his Rodin Cars base at Mount Lyford, Canterbury, in New Zealand and would guarantee to put a female driver in one of the seats.

Rodin Cars FZED Single Seater

Rodin Cars recently became the majority shareholder of the Carlin motorsport team, now Rodin Carlin, which runs single seater teams in F2, F3 and F4 championships. Super Formula Series driver, Liam Lawson, drove in the 2022 FIA Formula 2 Championship for Carlin while fellow Kiwi Louis Sharp currently driver for Rodin Carlin in the British F4 Championship.

The FIA may decide on up to two teams to join the F1 grid with a decision to be made by the end of June 2023. It will be a difficult process for any new application with a certain amount of resistance from current established Formula One teams.

Rodin Cars currently build the FZED single seater and is also working on the FZERO Hypercar (track only).
