“There is a battle brewing” – CCC Club Championship

The Canterbury Car Club – Club Championship has five weeks to run and with seven-events still to be held there is an almighty tussle going on for top honours.

Last week a Navigation Rally, Motorkhana and Dual Car Sprint were run and the results upset the apple cart somewhat.

Allan Coker (GR Yaris) holds an 81-point advantage (on 383-points) but having already competed in 20 events he can only earn “improved place points”. John Rathgen (Pulsar GTi-R/Fiesta) has just pipped Peter Flewellen (Fraser/Mini) to move past the 300-point mark but by only 3-points. Tony Chapman (Swift/Mini/MX5) is in fourth and on a charge having competed in a Navigation Rally for the first time last Thursday night. He is just one of those members looking to enter different motorsport events previously not contemplated.

The individual Championships are also close. Some will go to the wire whilst others are done and dusted for the 2021 – 2022 season.

Navigation Rallies: The Rossendale Rally crew of Ian McKee, Brent Rawstron and Peter Monroe now have a margin of 11 points over the CCC Office crew of Mark Wederell, Barry Higham and Chris Protheroe (current trophy holders). 3 crews have a mathematical chance of winning with 2 Navigation Rallies before the season ends.

Motorkhana: One round remains out of the thirteen round series and Steve Hall (Mini/GR Yaris) just needs to finish in the top 20 to secure the win as he currently leads Neil Gardner (Lotus/Starlet) and Tony Chapman (Mini/Swift)

Autocross: John Rathgen (Pulsar GTi-R) looks to have the race for the Trophy in the bag but we all know that anything could happen?? Barking at his heels are Allan Coker (GR Yaris), Neil Gardner (Lotus) and Tony Chapman (MX5). Just 1 round remains!

InterClub (incl Hillclimbs), the biggest contributor to the Club’s current leading position in the Interclub Series is Malcolm Hoogervorst (Silvia) with a big lead over 2nd placed Sharon Kier (Civic). There are two events to go but a change in places is unlikely.

Speed – Dual Car Sprints, Malcolm Hoogervorst (Nissan Silvia) has a 7 point advantage over Ross Bristol (Westfield) on 86 points with Alan Honeybone (Westfield) just 3 in arrears.

Race – Clubmans – Saloons: With just one Round remaining Malcolm Hoogervorst (Nissan Silvia) has an 18-point lead over this years’ fastest man, Liam Matheson (RX7). Lewis Low (260Z) is third on 97 points.

Race – Clubmans – Classic Saloons Not quite as tight here with Bruce Henderson (RX3) holding 6-point lead over Graham Crow (MX5) and Maurie Bone (Anglia) in a not too distant third.

Race – Clubmans – Singleseaters, local hero, James Penrose, still holds a 15-point lead over Ryan Low and Peter Spencer-Bower.

Race – Continental RennSport, five events, The RennSport Trophy, Winner: David Proud

Drift: Zac Palmer has won the 2021 – 22 Drift Championship after the pandemic reduced the season to four Rounds.
