Watch out for Louis Foster

Just when we were thinking that the 2023 Castrol Toyota Formula Regional Oceania Championship was settling into a duel between Charlie Wurz and Kiwi Callum Hedge, along comes an announcement that will upset the apple cart!  The addition of British driver Louis Foster to the grid for the final three rounds will have an immediate impact on the leaderboard.  Hold all bets!

Foster is coming off the back of winning the 2022 Indy Pro 2000 Championship, finishing on the podium 12/18 times including seven race victories and five pole positions. He knows single seaters, wings and slicks, and how to win so count on him being quick right from the get-go.

Having missed the first two rounds, it’s unlikely, but not mathematically impossible, for him to play catch up. However, should he be immediately fighting for wins, he’ll be taking valuable points away from the current title contenders.

Son of former British Touring Car Championship racer Nick Foster, Louis came through the ranks of  the Ginetta Junior Championship, British F4 and F3, Formula 2000 and Euroformula Open before heading to the US and wining the Indy Pro 2000 Championship.

Foster is well known to two Kiwi drivers. Billy Frazer and Jacob Douglas. All three were part of the Exclusive Autosport team in 2022 with Douglas and Frazer competing in the USF 2000 Championship.

For 2023, he will be team mate to another Kiwi, Hunter McElrea, with the Andretti Autosport competing in the Indy Lights (NXT) Championship.
