A lap of ‘Silverstone’ at Teretonga

Ever fancied doing a lap of the Silverstone circuit in the UK, home of the British Grands Prix. Now is your chance – almost.

The Southland Sports Car Club are holding a non-championship grass Autocross at Teretonga Park on Sunday 12 December and Southland Sports Car Club, ClubSport co-ordinator Malcolm Mitchell, has modelled the course as close as possible to the Silverstone layout.

“It’s not identical but it is based on the famous UK track, and of course it is grass,” says Mitchell. “We will use two courses during the day which will basically be the same course but run in the opposite direction. Competitors will get three runs at each course with an overall winner and classes split into 0-1600cc and 1600cc & over.”

The event is an entry level one where anyone who wishes to have a go can do so, particularly newbies. Anyone 12 years of age and over can take part with consent required for younger competitors. You can bring along your own car if it is of a warrantable standard or else use the Evolution Motorsport Nissan Sentra for the very small fee of $20.

Details are available at teretonga.org.nz under the ClubSport section. Online entries which cost $60 close at 12 noon on Thursday 9 December but on the day entries will be accepted. Should anyone have any inquiries contact Malcom Mitchell Southland Sports Car Club ClubSport co-ordinator at 021 666 956.

Documentation takes place at the Pit Office on the infield at Teretonga Park from 8.30am with the event due to start at 10.00am.

All attendees must be double vaccinated and have their My Vaccine pass with them when entering Teretonga Park.
