Impressive GT Field set for Hampton Downs hit out

After months of no on track activity for a large majority of North Island GT competitors, there will be a chance for a pre season hit out at Hampton Downs over the weekend of 18/19 December.

With the new Rodin Cars Super GT Series due to kick in the new-year, the event is the perfect pre cursor to the action in 2022, with a number of the competitors taking to the track with other exotic GT machines.

Event organiser, Geoff Short is expecting a bumper field for the pre season hit out.

“We’ve had considerable interest from drivers wanting to get some mileage under their belts before the 2022 season starts,” says Short.

“We’re fortunate that we’re able to get a race meeting underway before the end of the year. It will be a great opportunity for a lot of the teams to shake down their new cars – of which there are quite a few new GT3 category cars which have arrived in the country in the past months – including the new Brabham BT62 which many are eager to see out on track.”

“The initial entry list is impressive, and we expect it to grow.”

With an incredible assortment of exotic machinery, the field will be headlined by the new Brabham BT62 of Dwayne Carter.

Add to that, V8 legend Greg Murphy will give the Shane Helms owned Renault R.S 01 its New Zealand track debut.

Also joining the field will be Paul Radisich who will line up in the widely publicised Collins Motorsport MARC Ford Mustang alongside Sam Collins.

A myriad of GT3 machinery is also confirmed on the entry list.

Partnered by Daniel Gaunt, Andrew Fawcett is set to give his new 720 McLaren GT3 a run. Gene Rollinson will pilot the new Lamborghini GT3 as too will Scott Smith and Rowan Shepherd sharing the driving duties in another new Lamborghini GT3. Also look for the third Lamborghini of Ross Graham.

Glenn Smith and John DeVeth will share a McLaren GT3 as too will Lance Hughes and Chris van Der Drift in a Nissan GT3. A second Nissan GT3 is set to be entered by Rhys Gould.

A duo of Aston Martin GT4’s will be piloted by Shane Helms and Stephen Harrison, who will be joined by the McLaren GT4 of Brent Foreman and the Ginetta GT4 of Allan Sargeant.

Connor Adam will have the sole Porsche entry with his 997 Cup Car.

Also look for the Radical SR8 of Grant Dalton with a radical SR10 to be piloted by Dean McCarroll.

The GT Class will compete in two 30-minute races along with one 60-minute race, all with a compulsory pit stop.
