Pukekohe Park plays host to the second round of the 2020 Golden Homes North Island Endurance Series this Saturday, and there’s plenty of action and some very cool cars to enjoy.
With the national endurance final at Highlands Motorsport Park over the weekend of November 6-8, this is the final run out in the North Island this year for the One Hour and Three Hour competitors and there are plenty coming out to race at the iconic track. A field of 25 plus cars will tackle the One Hour race and heading the entry will be Hampton Downs winner John De Veth in the McLaren 650S.
There will be a small army of 996 and 997 GT3 Cup Porsches and V8 racing machines hot on his heels hoping to upset the form book, with Callum Hedge in his Porsche 997, Tim Edgell in his modified Holden Supertourer, Nick Ross in his Nissan Altima and John Midgley in his Ford Supertourer all potential threats. Lance Hughes and three time BNT V8s champion – and current Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy Series Pro class champion – Simon Evans will also be right in the mix.
Watch out too for the two brand new ‘Howe GT’ cars being fielded by Corliss Race Engineering that caught the eye at Hampton Downs not just with their speed, but also with their soundtrack. Experienced racers Matt Gibson and Jono Lester are behind the wheels of these awesome racers once again and they should go well down Pukekohe’s long straights.
With Chris Van Der Drift otherwise engaged this weekend, there was no announcement of Glenn Smith’s co-driver at the time of writing, which should make life easier for The Heart of Racing duo of Alex Riberas and Darren Kelly. Andrew Fawcett and Sam Fillmore are out in their International Motorsport run Audi R8 LMS Ultra while Matt Dovey and Jono Lester should also turn a few heads in their New Zealand built, and quite spectacular Chevy-powered Audi A5.
There’s practice on Friday and qualifying for both disciplines on Saturday morning. The One Hour race is first off at 11.40am followed by the Golden Homes Three Hour clash at 1.30pm.
The race will be live streamed as usual by the Fast Files at https://www.youtube.com/c/Thefastfiles/live
