Nick Cassidy and DTM at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps this weekend

Nick Cassidy (AlphaTauri AF Corse Ferrari) heads to Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, the sixth race weekend of the DTM championship which marks the series’ only stop in Belgium this year, where weather could be a major factor in the action on track.

“I’m really excited for Spa,” commented Cassidy. “As always, the weather could look a bit tricky, but in theory it’s a track that should suit us well. I think we can show a great performance here, and I’m looking forward to fighting for a win. We have all the ingredients and I’m ready to put that on the table this weekend.”

Cassidy scooped up six points with a seventh-place finish in Race 1 of the previous stop at the Nürburgring, his first DTM race since mid-June. And he delivered a strong start in Race 2 before being forced to retire when his #37 Ferrari with the livery of Red Bull’s premium fashion brand, AlphaTauri, was touched into a spin. The 28-year-old from New Zealand is feeling confident about his car, his team and his abilities.

An exciting track for drivers and fans, Spa-Francorchamps demands intense concentration throughout its 7-kilometre length. It’s by far the longest track of the DTM season – so long that some parts can be wet and slippery while others remain dry. The circuit’s most famous challenge is the Eau Rouge/Raidillon, including a beast of an uphill turn taken from a fiendishly fast approach.

The Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020 racecars of Red Bull AlphaTauri AF Corse are designed for a combination of power, control and stability that should be particularly well suited to the demands of the Belgian track. But if rain develops, as it often does in the Ardennes region, chaos in the grid could be an added “opponent” for the entire field.

The DTM weekend at Spa-Francorchamps features two sprint races of 50 minutes plus one lap, starting at 1:30pm local time on Saturday and Sunday, September 10 and 11, 2022.
