Sharp’s F4 team mate is McLaren Junior driver Ugo Ugochukwu

Announced this week that young Kiwi Formula Ford driver Louis Sharp is heading to the UK and will take part in the 2022 Rokit F4 British Championship Certified by FIA with the Carlin F4 team. Already Carlin have signed American kartsport driver Ugo Ugochukwu who will turn 15 on the eve of the championship and is the first driver to be announced in Carlin’s 2022 line-up.

Like Sharp, Ugochukwu has also excelled in Kartsport winning the 2014 Micro Rok Championship, the 2017 International Open X30Mini Championship and the 2018 Challenge of the Americas Rok JuniorChampionship. A strong season saw the young karter claiming the 2020 FIA OKJ European Championship further cementing his karting credentials. In 2021, Ugochukwu has raced in the FIA European OK Senior class claiming seventh overall. Pole position in the World Championship and fourth at the chequered flag concluded a final strong season of karting.

Louis Sharp

14-year-old Sharp won’t turn 15 until May, missing the opening round in April as the legal requirement to compete in the category is 15-years-old.

Carlin has a strong record in the F4 British Championship. The team’s then driver Lando Norris won the inaugural season in 2015 (formerly MSA Formula) before Max Fewtrell claimed the title in 2016 and Jamie Caroline in 2017. After a one-year sabbatical from the championship Carlin returned in 2019 with Zane Maloney who claimed the title also in his rookie season. Carlin’s 2020 rookie Zak O’Sullivan lost out on championship honours by just four points after a dramatic season finale.
