Ashburton Car Club has taken an emphatic overall victory in the 2022 Canterbury Motorsport Interclub Series after dominating the final two rounds on the year.

Scott’s Shingle Sprint (Round 7) on Le Bretons Rd, Wakanui was run on Sunday 20 November. This is one of the few gravel sprints that can be contested without the need for a roll cage.

Due to an unfortunate clash with the first day of the 2022 Silver Fern Rally, which also doubled as the final round of the 2022 Mainland Rally Championship, there was low attendance at this event. All eleven competitors were Ashburton Car Club members, and this resulted in maximum points haul of 90. The battle of the day was the father/son duo of Wayne and Thomas Muckle in the Mitsubishi Evo 3 with Thomas taking the laurels. Scott Clark (Subaru WRX) was 3rd in the same second.

Ashburton Car Club now held a 111-point unbeatable advantage giving them a series win with a round remaining. Interclub points earners were:

Ashburton Car Club: Thomas Muckle 1st – 20, Wayne Muckle 2nd – 19, Scott Clark 3rd – 18, James Watts 4th – 17 and Konrad Scott 5th – 16.

Round 8 was a late replacement for the lost AutoSport Autocross. An extremely kind Ratec club member donated his Rolleston paddock for 30 competitors from five clubs to race on a tight course on a hot December day.

Steve Hall in the borrowed GR Yaris whipped into the lead from the first run and was never headed despite the Gold Mini duo of Tony Chapman and Daniel Males(owner) doing their level best to catch him. Adrian Harris (BMC Moke) and Lily Chapman (Mazda SP20 4WD) took the next two spots.

Interclub points earners were:
Canterbury Car Club: Steve Hall (GR Yaris) 1st – 20, Tony Chapman (Mini) 2nd – 19, Adrian Harris (Moke) 4th – 17, Lily Chapman (SP20) 5th – 16 and Derek Hartley (Mira) 12th – 9. =81
