Historic Touring Cars name new sponsor for 2024 season

The Historic Tour Cars of New Zealand have announced a new naming sponsor for the three-round 2024 season. The John Fairhall Historic Touring Cars series gets underway at the Taupo Historic Grand Prix weekend at the end of January (19-21) before heading to the Skope Classic in Christchurch in February (2-4) with the final round at the Highlands Festival of Speed at the Highlands Motorsport Park in Cromwell in April (5-7).

The late John Fairhall had a very long association with Touring Car Motorsport in New Zealand. He purchased and ran a black Archibold sponsored BMW CSi 635 in 1985 (main photo).

Under John’s stewardship the BMW won the 1985/86 Benson and Hedges and New Zealand Touring Car Group A Series in the hands of Christchurch driver Trevor Crowe.

In 2014 John was instrumental in establishing the Historic Touring Car Class (HTC)which featured many of the cars that raced in New Zealand in the 1980’s

John was able to purchase back the BMW CSi 635 and have Crowe back in the driver’s seat competing in the HTC series.
