Three races remain in the 2023 Super Formula Championship for Liam Lawson who is just two points off taking the lead in the series. Motegi host this weekend’s race with two final races to take place at Suzuka.
“I think how important it is to work out on the go what strategies you can have in the race,” commented Lawson. “You go into a race with three or four different scenarios that you’re going to try and play out but nothing ever turns out as you plan it. If something happens that you didn’t expect, what to do.
“I think we’ve done a very good job at that for most of the year. We had one or two (rounds) when we didn’t and it’s about being on top of that.”
Suzuka with host the grand finale in late October, a circuit where Liam has already tasted victory and where everyone has raced before at the start of the season.
“It makes it more important to nail the lap and do everything right, especially in quali because everybody’s very very close so one little lock-up and can cost like eight grid spots.
“Returning to a circuit definitely closes things up so it makes it even more important to be consistent.”
Liam Lawson’s emphatic win at Fuji in the last round of Super Formula put him within one point of the championship lead.
Lawson made history when he won on debut at Fuji back in April and his repeat victory marks his third win in six races.
