The next sixteen days are pivotal to the outcome of the 2022 FIA Formula 2 Championship with six of the remaining eight races to be contested. This weekend Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium hosts the Round 11 before Zandvoort in Holland and Monza in Italy.

Kiwi Liam Lawson sits eighth overall on the points table heading to Spa.

“I’m super excited for the triple header, a lot of racing before quite a large break,” commented Lawson. “This is a big chunk of the championship where we need to make up some points. Probably three of the most unique tracks on the calendar and I’m looking forward to all of them.

The icing-on-the-cake for Lawson is his first test in a 2022 Formula One car with Alpha Tauri in the First Practice session of the Belgium Formula One Grand Prix on Friday.

“This weekend I get to drive the F1 car as well so that will be a pretty special moment. I think that Eau Rouge is probably the most iconic part of Spa.  All in all I am sure it will be a very special weekend.”

Felipe Drugovich has held firm at the top of the Drivers’ Championship since the conclusion of the fourth round in Barcelona. However, as the end of the season draws ever closer, so too does the duel for the title. Three podium finishes and a third victory of the year last time out in the Budapest Feature Race for Théo Pourchaire has slashed the MP Motorsport driver’s advantage to just 21 points.

There’s a tight battle gearing up just behind them with several drivers setting their sights on breaking into the top five. Currently, Logan Sargeant is third on 119 points ahead of Enzo Fittipaldi and Jehan Daruvala, but with only 34 points separating third from 10th, it’s anyone’s game! 10 different drivers have already claimed victory in as many rounds, could we see an 11th at the Belgian circuit?
