Gilmour and McLaren team targeting redemption in Sardinia

NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team driver Emma Gilmour heads to the next round of Extreme E Season 3 taking place on the island of Sardinia on 16-17 September 2023. The Island X Prix, co-organised and coordinated by the Automobile Club d’Italia and Regione Sardegna, will mark the championship’s return to the Italian island for a fourth time since its inception.

“I’m really looking forward to returning to Sardinia this weekend,” commented Gilmour.  “After we didn’t have a strong event there previously, I feel like we have a point to prove this time around. At the last race, we learnt a lot and will be able to apply that.”

The electric off-road racing series will be returning to the familiar setting of the Italian Army Training area at Capo Teulada in Sulcis-Iglesiente. The Teulada route provides a challenging backdrop for the course, with some changes to the track’s configuration for this event creating a unique challenge for the 10 teams and 20 world class drivers.

“We want to have a strong end to the season and consistently fight for wins and podiums. I know Tanner (Foust) is as revved up as I am to get back up on that podium and reward the whole team’s efforts over the season.”

Nico Rosberg’s Rosberg X Racing (RXR) are the most successful team when it comes to the Island X Prix, with four victories from five races on the Italian island since the series launched in 2021. The ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team currently leads the Extreme E Season 3 standings, with RXR a close second with 105 points – four off the lead – while Veloce Racing sit third after a difficult Island X Prix in July. Last year’s winners, Sir Lewis Hamilton’s X44 Vida Carbon Racing, are fifth in the standings behind No.99 GMC HUMMER EV Chip Ganassi Racing.

With four different winners across just six rounds, the double-header format means more points are up for grabs and more opportunities awaiting the 10 world-class teams in Rounds 7 and 8 of Season 3 in Sardinia.

Current championship standings
P1 Acciona Sainz XE Team (109 points)
P2 Rosberg X Racing (105 points)
P3 Veloce Racing (95 points)
P7 NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team (44 points)
