Incident sidelines Gilmour from Extreme E event

During Free Practice 1 for the Island X Prix round of the 2023 Extreme E Series, NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team’s Emma Gilmour was involved in an incident, following which the New Zealander was transported to Cagliari hospital for precautionary checks.

The NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team have confirmed that Gilmour has undergone additional tests at the hospital, where further examination showed she has a small rib fracture. As per standard procedure, Gilmour will be under observation in the hospital for the next 24 hours.

“I had a terrible start to the weekend, after I suffered a high-speed crash on my first outing on the track,” commented Gilmour. “It was such a shame as the car was feeling great after driving it on Wednesday. I’m gutted for the team and the extra work it has created.

“After an overnight stay in hospital for observation to keep an eye on my concussion, I was discharged from Cagliari hospital. I’m still stiff and sore from yesterday but so happy to be back with the team.
Thanks so much for all the messages, texts, and comments, I really appreciate them and I’m all in for a speedy recovery!”

As a result, the NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team confirmed that they will not be competing in the rest of the round due to damage sustained to the chassis during the Redemption Race. It was not possible to repair the car in time and the team now prepare and focus on the final two rounds in Chile.
