Two Supercars races today in Tailem Bend after feisty Saturday scrap

The Repco Supercars Championship is back on track today at the OTR SuperSprint, following an intense encounter in Saturday’s race at The Bend Motorsport Park.

Championship leader Brodie Kostecki took a convincing win yesterday in Race 20 of the 2023 season and extended the West Aussie’s championship lead to 80 points over reigning champion Shane van Gisbergen.

Ford’s Chaz Mostert finished second in Race 20, his fifth podium of the season and third in the last five races for the Gold Coaster.

Thomas Randle finished third on Saturday, his first podium as a solo driver in Supercars, and comes at the same venue where he was involved in a frightening start line crash in 2022.

The 27-year old from Melbourne also remarkably beat testicular cancer in 2021, adding further value to an already significant moment for the 2020 Dunlop Super2 Series champion.

It was opposite fortunes for Kostecki’s teammate, Will Brown, who was collected in a multi-car incident in Lap 1 of Saturday’s race and was forced to retire. The 25-year old from Toowoomba will look to rebound today after falling to fourth in the championship on Saturday.

With 210 points on offer and 141 points separating the top four, the championship battle could see more twists and turns in today’s racing.

Qualifying for Races 21 and 22 take place from 9:45 a.m. ACST, with Race 21 beginning at 12:50 p.m., and Race 22 at 3:50 p.m.

The OTR SuperSprint is the eighth event of the 2023 Repco Supercars Championship season, and the 600th race event held in Supercars history.
