Kostecki in hot-form heading to Sandown this weekend

Repco Supercars Championship leader Brodie Kostecki is in red hot form heading into this weekend’s Sandown 500, where the Perth-native will look to add to the success he has already had at the Melbourne circuit.

The 25-year old heads to Sandown on the back of a weekend sweep at The Bend Motorsport Park in late August, which saw his championship lead balloon to a season-high 137-points over Shane van Gisbergen.

This weekend’s event marks the first 500-kilometre race at Sandown since 2019, and marks the first endurance race of the Gen3 era of Supercars.

The Gold Coast-based West Australian has a strong track record at Sandown: as a 20-year-old in 2018 Kostecki scored his first win in the Dunlop Super2 Series.

Three years later he stood on the podium in just the second event of his rookie season in the Repco Supercars Championship.

This weekend Kostecki will joined by co-driver David Russell in the No. 99 Coca-Cola Camaro; together the pair stood on the podium at the 2021 Repco Bathurst 1000 and finished fourth in the Great Race last year.

Aiming to stand higher on the podium at Sandown and in October’s Bathurst 1000, the Erebus Motorsport drivers last week conducted a test day as final preparations for the upcoming enduros.

On-track action from the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 begins Friday with practice, followed by qualifying and a Top Ten Shootout on Saturday to determine the grid for Sunday’s 161-lap, 500-kilometre race, which begins at 2:15 p.m. AEST.
