Auckland driver Bree Morris has opened her Castrol Toyota Formula Regional Oceania Championship coming home 12th in Race 1 at Highlands Motorsport Park in Cromwell.  It’s a full-on five weeks for her, competing in the five round, 15-race series.

“It’s been a massive step from a Formula Ford car to the FT60,” commented Morris.  “It’s a big learning curve but we are slowly improving and slowly learning.”

Twelve months ago Morris was competing in both the NZ Formula Ford Championship as well as the North Island Formula Ford Series which she went on to win.  Now it’s all about wings and slicks and Morris is confident that she will move forward up the grid.

“It’s a matter of time in the car.  I’m good on the slow speed but need to focus on high speed corners and gain more confidence with the car.  Highland’s is definitely not a track for a beginner to gain confidence on.

“The race was a learning session for me.  Tomorrow I will have a clear head and more confidence in myself and in the car.”

Sunday will bring a second 15-minute qualifying session and two more races, including the afternoon’s feature race for the Dorothy Smith Memorial Cup trophy.
